Just a Little Nervous

T's had a rash on his face for the past few days. I haven't really thought much about it. A couple of my kids, especially those with asthma, tend to be a bit rashy from time to time, so I usually don't stress about it knowing it's just going to pass.

Well, to see if I could figure out what this was tonight, I did a quick search on webmd. After finding what I thought it might be, I did an image search on google. This is what I think it is.

This is pretty much what it looks like (although this is not T in the photo).
I know it is foolish to search for health info online, but I was curious about the risks to an unborn child caused by fifths, so I found this.
So, I'm curious. Has anyone else dealt with this during pregnancy or heard more information than what I've found here? It sounds like the risk is fairly minimal, but I think I'll call both the pediatrian and ob tomorrow to rule out any problems. If there's anything you'd be willing to share of your knowledge, I'd be very grateful. It might help me rest better tonight.

I have no helpful comments except that it doesn't do any harm to call the doctor. Also most things have that caviat "if pregnant" I think it's just a way to be as safe as possible. Also it's not dumb at all to look up health stuff online. My Mom has actually out-diagnosed doctors on several occassions by doing that and they never believe her but she always ends up being right.

It's not at all foolish to look for health information on line. It's probably foolish to run all the way to a diagnosis and self-treatment from what you read on, say, Wikipedia, but I'd certainly want to look up what information I could find and then discuss the situation with my doctor and/or kids' pediatrician with some background knowledge of what questions to ask them, etc.

I self diagnosed Emma's Shingles last year. Nobody would believe me since it's rare for children to have. I had researched it online. I took her to her pediatrician and they were stumped as well. I asked if it could possibly be Shingles and she said she'd be right back, let me look it up. She came back and said, yep, that's exactly what it is. So never be afraid to do your own research.

The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was "Fifth's Disease!" Which, ahaha, that's because it's a picture of a kid with Fifth Disease, and not T. But yay for me diagnosing correctly?

I've never been to a doctor for it, but most of my kids have had that slapped cheek look at one time or another. Two of them had it while I was pregnant, and I was also exposed during a third pregnancy to nephews and nieces who were diagnosed with Fifth. There were no problems to me or the pregnancies...that I can see. ;)
