Swine Flu

Who doesn't have this on their mind lately? I found this yesterday. It relieved a lot of my concerns, so I thought I'd share it here.

Swine flu in Oregon: probable

darn it!

i got an email a few days ago about preparation. for voluntary quarantine if people in your family are sick.

just in case. stockpiling water. and 3 weeks supply of food in case it becomes pandemic.

most of the precautions are common sense. hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes. and staying home if you are sick.

hope your family avoids it. hope mine does too.

Renetta says there is a confirmed case in Monmoth. She isn't feeling good either. Yikes.

I heard that Western Oregon was closed today, so I knew there had to be a case close by.

I'm just trying to put it all in perspective. The media has such a way of freaking us all out over little things. Z is such an easy-going guy that nothing get's him frazzled. Because of this, I tend to be the more spazzy one of the two of us.

I'm thinking of Mexican healthcare in contrast to the U.S. system. I just can't help but think that we've got this all out of perspective. Yes, be prepared, but while we were at the grocery store yesterday, there was a person with a mask on. I think we tend to panic when possibly it's not warranted.

I just tend to think of this, after seeing this news conference, as "the flu" that we see all the time. Yes, people are dying in Mexico because when they get to the doctor or hospital there are no I.V. fluids for them, so they die of dehydration from throwing up so much and not being able to refill their stores. That's just my opinion. Foolish? Hmm. Well, we shall see.

One thing I read yesterday was that pregnant women aren't supposed to care for those who are sick. Hmm. Nice. I've never been relieved of that duty before. On the other hand, who will do it in my house? I talked to my kids about washing their hands (again) this morning and put my oldest kids on alert for taking care of sickness if it should come our way.

I also got to thinking about the risk we're under as we have family members bringing germs home from four schools. If anything comes down the pike, we're usually sitting ducks.

Mostly concerned for a currently unborn child and what things'll be like when she gets here. I was relieved when I found she'd be a summer baby as RSV wouldn't be a problem like it was for a few of my others, but we shall see.

I just honestly think things are completely out of focus here, so I'm trying to be realistic, prepared, and hopeful.

It is sad how bad the media has messed this up.
Hey, over on Healthy Divas I want to try a new program where we could do a goal tracker/group challenge, please check it out and see if you would like to try it.

Good footage and reminder. Thanks for sharing. I hope it doesn't come your way. It has hit close to us. Hopefully it won't spread to us. Fingers crossed.
