A Warning I Received Today

I just read this in an email from a good friend today. thought I'd better share with as many as possible.

"Today at church we were informed that there are men going around posing asLDS missionaries. They say they have a message to share with you and justlike our missionaries ask if they can come in. They visit with you for awhile and then one of them asks to use the restroom. While he is gone, theother one distracts you with conversation while other ransacks (sp?) the house. Then they leave. They have hit the Salem and Monmouth areas alreadyand it is only a matter of time before it gets to other places. The Bishop said if you have any doubt to be sure to ask them to show their ministerial cards. All missionaries are required to have them and it shows that they are in fact true missionaries from our church. If they can not provide this, do not let them in and please call the police. Thanks!!!!"

Each missionary is supposed to carry a little white book which holds a card signed by the President of the church (Thomas S. Monson). If missionaries come to your door, ask to see it before you let them in.

Holy Smoly! That's outrageous! I hope they get caught. Hope they don't hurt anyone.

I don't know about this one. Has all the earmarks of an Urban Legend. I tried searching for this in the Salem and Monmouth news and found nothing. Sounds a bit too much like the Anti mormon commerical aired in California.

I need more proof before I'll buy this story.

I received it from a credible source and I have many friends in Monmouth, so I will continue to check. Regardless, I would think we'd want to be safe instead of sorry. It doesn't hurt to ask a missionary for his/her ministerial card. I carried mine the entire time I was in Japan and was never asked to see it. We tend to be too trusting. Don't you think? Until I can find it on snopes or I hear that it is undeniably an urban legend, I think we should ask and be careful.

I heard that Missionaries don't have the "white bibles/books" anymore. Just FYI.

Wow that is really scary and really sad too!
Our poor boys are out there doing a great work and these yahoo's are ruining their name.

I hope they are caught!

I shared this with Steve. He wondered if the source was from Monmouth? He knew nothing about this, as a Bishop surely he would have been made aware through the proper channels. Good to be careful, but....seems alittle strange
