Day 22- What Makes Me Different from Everyone Else

This one makes me laugh.

Let's see....

Freakishly large van....

Freakishly large family (for my part of the world)....

Freakishly large husband (well, compared to me at 5'4", 6'6" is quite the contrast) and children that are growing to be freakishly tall too.  No doubt I will end up being the shortest of the crew.

These things are the obvious to the naked eye things that make me different from everyone else.

Other than these things....hmmm....I know people who are very gifted in many ways.  These people have a hard time understanding that there are others around them (most others around them) that don't see life in the same way.  It seems that we all start out in life thinking that everyone sees things the same way we do.

As I assess myself on this level, I think I'm driven more than the average Joe.  Maybe not as much as some, but I'm never satisfied (now you know why the Warden's such a saint.  He has to put up with that).  I take things on thinking I can do it all.  Sometimes, I can.  Sometimes I fall short.

As a small child, I taught myself to read, ride my bike, play the piano....  I wanted to do these things, but I didn't have the patience for others to teach me.  Plus, I'm a bit stubborn, so I don't know if I would have learned had someone tried to teach me.  Actually, with riding my bike, my dad and a couple of my brothers were trying to teach me.  I failed miserably.  It wasn't until we were called to dinner and they went into the house that I learned.  I refused to go to dinner until I could ride that bike.  I rode it around and around the driveway until I got my balance then I took off down the street.

If I want it bad enough, I will stick to a job until it is completed or until I have learned it to my own satisfaction.  A good trait and a bad trait.  Good for me; bad for anyone that has to put up with me.

I have to agree with Tonya. You guys have the freakishly {tall, awesome, numerous, large-vehicle} niche under control, which leaves us... freakishly... hm... nerdy and weird? Don't know, I better think that over before I get to Day 22 in my own blog.

But you guys are awesome.

And being 5'4" myself, I know exactly what you mean about being surrounded by the freakishly tall.

My kids will all be taller than me, thanks to my wife's DNA.

Maybe there's a standardized tallness scale we can go by, like the pain index thing? So you could be short--er, um, I mean fashionably right-sized--on our end of the scale, or something along the continuum along "Hess" to "Boswell" and beyond :)
