That's What I Needed

I had the sweetest opportunity to be reunited with an old and very dear friend this past week.  It's just what the doctor ordered.  I have been stressed to the hilt lately, and to be honest, I know it's my own darned fault.

A mutual friend flew this friend into town so that she could be the doula at the mutual friend's upcoming birth.  Well, the baby didn't come, so I got to spend some time with her nearly every day she was here.

I had forgotten how wonderful it was to have her around.  I had forgotten what it was like to have someone to confide in.  I forgot how reassuring a good friend can be.

I can see clearly that this was all very tender mercy.  I didn't know I was so lonely.

The first time I saw her, she and I went to Papa Haydn in the Pearl District.  It was a warm-ish evening, so we sat outside at a little table and shared a lemon cheesecake.  We sat and caught up with each other.  It was like she'd never been gone, but the common points between us were uncanny.  I don't think there's anyone in this world who could have related with me as well as she could.  The situations we find ourselves in are just too similar.  She was a compassionate listening ear, and I hope I was that for her too.

I so needed her visit and her hugs.  Thank you Rachel!  I love you!

There is nothing like those dear friends that step in when only they can,
Yes, tender mercies.
Hope you are feeling much better.
