I'm going to have to teach the "cool look."Handsfullmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17080603359227234634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6585683677781096668.post-88254451930697592052011-03-10T16:09:48.228-08:002011-03-10T16:09:48.228-08:00What a wonderful article!!! We've been faced with a similar situation and it's always helps me to have these things in my "parenting handbook"
(not a literal one...although thats a great idea!)Alida B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16666218270564984697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6585683677781096668.post-26466461827577020702011-03-09T23:20:50.937-08:002011-03-09T23:20:50.937-08:00Love and Logic is great. Funny that you posted this, because I just posted something on road rage from a BIG bully. Wish I had read this article before this happened! Teehee. My 12-year-old daughter on occasion gets teased at school for her gofer cheeks and now her pimples on her face. We'll have to practice this. my oldest son was so tiny and was always ...AWESOME!
my oldest son was so tiny and was always picked on.
I had put him in taekwondo several months earlier.
and was passing his school when I recognised the coat and person inside the coat FLYING across the yard...
I pulled in grabbed my son and took him to his instructor...I explained that I was not paying him for my son to still be bullied.

My son was asked by his instructor...what have you been taught here? No you are to to start a fight EVER, you are not to be a bully EVER, what are the rules to protect yourself...
you give three warnings and then you "take care of the problem"
the next day at school this same kid was teasing that my son had to have his mommy take care of him...my son asked him once, twice to stop and leave him alone...
the third time he put him in a joint lock and dropped him to his knees and told him "calmly" I have asked you and asked you to leave me alone...I am not asking you again...
no more problems after that, and they did become very good friends.
My son now owns his own Teakwondo school...teaching the same rules that he learned from a very wise instructor.Janiecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07719395047651079234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6585683677781096668.post-80444329131613803752011-03-09T18:36:30.656-08:002011-03-09T18:36:30.656-08:00In our case, school had just started, so this kid ...In our case, school had just started, so this kid hadn't gotten very far in the bullying department. I'm not sure how it would work if it was extreme, but anything's worth a try.

The kids said something embarrassing to #2 in front of the entire class the first day. #2 came home very distraught. We found this article and practiced the skills. What I believe #2 used on the kid was "Nice try." So, the next day, the bully and a friend of his went up and said something ugly to #2. #2 said, "Nice try" and walked away. The day following the bully tried it again with a larger group. #2 said, "Nice try," and that was the end of it. It never happened again. Like I said, the bully became his friend, so he must have accepted that #2 was cool.Hesses Madhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17988796143736645049noreply@blogger.com
