Quote for the Day - Something to Ponder

"Not only our eternal salvation depends upon our willingness and capacity to forgive wrongs committed against us. Our joy and satisfaction in this life, and our true freedom, depend upon our doing so. When Christ bade us turn the other cheek, walk the second mile, give our cloak to him who takes our coat, was it to be chiefly out of consideration for the bully, the brute, the thief? Or was it to relieve the one aggrieved of the destructive burden that resentment and anger lay upon us?" --Marion D. Hanks, "Forgiveness: The Ultimate Form of Love", Ensign, Jan. 1974, 20

I love this quote. I have had my feelings hurt a couple of times and it had been a huge struggle to forgive and turn the other cheek. There are times I feel I have conquered my emotions and then i'll be confronted with the offender and all my hurt feelings come rushing back. I feel that I often have to prayerfully ask for a forgiving heart, so that when I am confronted with those who have hurt my feelings I can smile and try to be their friend. I do believe that there is a feeling of freedom and joy that comes with forgiving and loving those who have offended us...it's just so hard sometimes!
