DJ came home today very excited.
"Mom, guess what happened today. A very good thing."
"What?"
"I'll give you a hint, it has to do with books."
"Hmm. What?"
"It has to do with competing."
"Oh, you had another battle in Battle of the Books."
"Yeah, and I'm going to Cooper Mountain."
Every year, the librarians at our kids' and a neighboring school set up Battle of the Books competitions for the 4th and 5th graders in their respective schools. When the winners emerge from each school, they are then sent to Cooper Mountain to battle each other. Four years ago, DJ watched Q go. Ever since then, she's been excited to get in there and do it herself. She read nearly every book and isn't afraid to answer any question given her. Her team is the "Book Busters" and consists of three boys and herself. She was smart enough to get into a team with some smart cookies.
The competition isn't until June 10th, so it will be a long wait, but she started in today reading one of the last few books she hadn't yet read.
