An Interesting Article

My brother sent this to me via email. I found the link to it. I found this fascinating and completely agree with this point of view.

A well-articulated article which makes its point well. Thanks for sharing. I think it's particularly important not to forget, as this article points out, that protecting marriage means upholding everything that makes our homes stable and functional, which includes keeping to increasingly unpopular ideas about fidelity or even treating marriage as unnecessary or outdated.

It's hard, as I've said before, to reconcile that with maintaining fair laws to govern everyone including those who have different beliefs. So, while we say, yes, you have the right to exercise your agency to choose how you'll live, we can and should stand up and say what the consequences of those choices are, and advocate for what's right.

And hope and pray enough people listen.

I'm sad to see what's happened even when, as in the case in California last week, the majority decided to uphold traditional marriage, and we have angry mobs of people storming LDS temples, vandalizing chapels, threatening members with violence, ruin and death... for daring to speak out and participate in the democratic process. Yikes.

Even my own posting on the subject, which I *thought* was fair to both sides and tried to consider the merits of what each was saying and just trying to say "can we all find a way to co-exist in peace"? ended up with a pile of comments (22 so far), a fair number of which, shall we say, were far from kind and understanding. Bearing in mind that my blog is not open for the general Internet public to just stroll past and see what I'm saying, these are from people I count among my friends and associates. Unexpected and unsettling, but I'd prefer honesty and the chance to discuss, even if uncomfortable.

But it's clear that battle lines are being drawn, and right now, right here, Mormons are in the cross hairs for our participation in this issue.
