Since the kids were tiny, we've done family flu shots. After G was diagnosed with asthma we were encouraged by our insurance company. Well, today was the magical day. The kids were so excited...
NOT!
In order to get there in time, I had to pick G up from school a little bit early. The youngest two boys and I had been a few weeks ago and got ours. This, as I see now, was a blessing as they were not eligible for the new nasal form of the immunization and had to have actual shots.
All the way to the clinic, the kids were begging me, "Mom, I want the nose spray not the shot." This kept up until I was kind of sick of hearing it. I finally retored with, "I am not the doctor; although I often play one on TV."
I got a good kick out of myself and am still chuckling inside. The kids just sat there.

I can't get flu shots.
Every time I get them I get really sick. But I seem to do fine if I don't.
I hope it helps your kids stay healthy.
Btw, did you get the nap you seemed to need when you commented on my blog? lol.
also btw, I LOVE House.

I haven't had a flu shot. I hope they help you at your house! ♥ Hugs!
We get flu shots, too. My two-year-old saw me get mine a month ago and he has been asking for one ever since. He got it today and wasn't so happy after all. He got a sticker and a sucker, though, so everything was all right. :)
I never get flu shots for me kids, does that make me a bad parent?
HAHA Q was telling me about that! Heard it was tons of fun! Yup Julie and I are getting ours soon.
haha those pictures are perfect!!
Are your kids afraid of needles? Its okay, I can get the needle shot, but just can't look and im all good.
I nor my kids have ever gotten the flu shot. Hmmm...is that line from from Joey on Friends?
Ahhh, the dreaded flu shot! I didn't know they give them up the nose now. Hmmm. Which is worse up the nose or in the bum/hip? Thanks for the reminder, I should probably get one. I haven't had one for a couple of years. Yak at ya later.
That was a great comeback Julie!
No, Della, I didn't get my nap. I cherish the time when my little guy is asleep, and it's my blogging time, so the nap is sacrificed daily. *Sigh*
Not getting flu shots doesn't make you a bad mom. I know there's a lot of debate on the benefits or lack of same. I just know for us, after starting to get them, my oldest son's asthma started to dimish. He now had "outgrown" the asthma he had since he was 3 weeks old. Does this really have anything to do with getting flu shots, I don't know, but now that I have two other asthma kids, we stick wih the shots.
Tink, it seemed that the nose thing wasn't too bad. It is a live virus they put up there, though, so there's a pretty good chance of getting a fever and other flu symptoms. They won't give this to a kid with asthma. The shot is a dead form of the virus.
I have one daughter who psychs herself out every time she knows she's going to have a needle near her, so she was extra verbal in the car yesterday. I was relieved, for her sake, that the nasal thing was an option.
My first year that I have had a flu shot. I need to think about my daughter now. Thanks.
We've never done flu shots, either. Being homeschoolers really the only illness we're exposed to is at church, and though sick people do go there (or, I should say, people send their sick children to the nursery, and from their 2YO to our 2YO to the rest of the family goes the sickness) it's usually not the really sick ones.
Usually.
That pic and your comment has me chuckling. . . .good retort mom!
